We prescribe joy. For children diagnosed with serious illness and their families, every moment is precious. At CCA, our goal is to transform as many of those moments as possible - with joy. Why joy? Because in the fight against devastating illness, joy is often forgotten. Because joy connects us with the power of hope, comfort, and happiness and helps families and children feel uplifted when their lives have been turned upside down. Because joy is something every child deserves.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Few things are as devastating as a child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Young patients and their families are quickly thrust into an unfamiliar & often frightening world of medical decisions and hospital protocols. At the same time, they are coping with emotional upheaval and financial anxiety. Their needs go well beyond what even the best medical care can provide. Founded more than 16 years ago by a family who has been there, CCA is the voice of experience, compassion and hope.
How will this project solve this problem?
CCA offers free award-winning programs and resources to seriously ill children (from birth to 18) and their families. Our Music Rx program infuses the hospital with the healing power of music. Chemo Pal mentors help combat fear & isolation with friendship. The LifeSupport Family Enrichment program provides resources & support during an overwhelming & financially depleting journey. The Caring Cabin provides a magical getaway where families can create precious, lasting memories.
Potential Long Term Impact
Your gift will allow us to invest hope and comfort into the lives of thousands of seriously-ill children and their families. CCA hopes to deliver Joy Rx to over 11,000 children, teens, family members and the professionals who care for them this year. Our goal is to deepen our level of service and provide over 250,000 free service interactions of music, friendship, resources and support to children and families when they need it most.
