Getting Dressed for a Performance
Getting Dressed for a Performance

SALUTATIONS:
Hello there!

Welcome to this month’s edition of news and updates from Bitone Children's Center. It is our hope that you have had a great time since we last communicated with you. We are sending you warm and heartfelt greetings from Bitone children, staff and community friends. And we wish you the most refreshing spring 2012.

APPRECIATION

We deeply want to thank you so much for your moral, technical and financial support you offer to Bitone Children’s Center through GlobalGiving. It is no doubt that your generosity has kept us going especially at this time as we continue to experience economic crisis.

Many thanks go to all of you that supported us during the recently concluded Global Giving Bonus Day. As you are aware, all the funds your donated on the bonus day will go directly to clear educational related needs (school fees, uniforms, school shoes) for our children for this current January-April 2012 academic term/semester. We are happy to inform you that we were able to collect donations totaling to $925 (after matching them) out the targeted $1,781. This leaves with us a balance of $856 needed to clear the education budget for this current term.

Once again, congratulations and thank you so much for your support and generosity.

BITONE WEBSITE:

Our new website is still under construction. Once complete, you will able to access all information in detail including a photo gallery, news bytes, other ways to get involved and so much more. The aim is to make it more interactive. We would like to thank those persons who are making it possible to have it constructed and hosted. To access the Bitone website, please visit: www.bitonechildren.org

TERM SCHOLARSHIP:
I am happy to inform you that 3 (out of the 4) of our children who completed their Primary Leaving Examinations last year have been awarded each a G.T.L scholarship for this current academic term to start with their senior one studies at St. Lawrence Ssonde Secondary School. The girls are:

  • Angel Ndagire (Senior one)
  • Jane-Rose Ayebare (Senior one)
  • Sylvia Nansumba (Senior two)

Growth Through Learning (GTL) is a secular nonprofit that awards scholarships to bright East African girls from poor families so that they can get a high school education. For more info please see: http://growththroughlearning.org/ The same organization has offered to pay Tuition for Elizabeth Nantongo's. Elizabeth, one of the oldest students joined Makerere University and she is pursuing a degree in Community Psychology.

While we have been presented with this great opportunity, we (Bitone) have a responsibility to support these girls with all their scholastic needs. These include books, uniforms, textbooks plus other learning materials and up-keep funds while at school.

BITONE SENIOR 6 STUDENTS:

I am happy to inform you that our children who sat for their Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (A Level- Senior six exams) passed.

  • Damalie Nabanakulya scored: 14 points (Arts)
  • Mary Nansamba scored: 14 points (Arts) and
  • Aisha Blessed Nabitosi scored: 16 points (Sciences)

These three will be joining college/universities in the upcoming in-take (August) this year 2012. We continue to invite any individuals who might be interested in sponsoring a child with their education.

CHILDREN’S PROFILES:

We are happy to share with you our children’s profiles. Please find attached profiles and feel free to share it with any of your friends. We hope you find it helpful to read the background, dreams and successes of our children.

We would like to thank you once again for being there for us as we continue to provide support to our children with hopes that their lives will be better to make this world a better place. In case you would like to make any donation in support of our programs or in support of any of a child’s education, kindly visit our donation page at: http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/bitone-24-ugandan-disadvantaged-children/

THE TWO BITONE CURRENT TOP NEEDS:

Below are Bitone’ s current needs. We invite anyone with any advice, guidance, and resources that can help us achieve these goals.

  • LAND PURCHASE

Details: About 7 acres. This amount of land will be used to build a Bitone home that will accommodate the children (2 acres), a garden (1 acre), a theatre (1 acre), and a school (3 acres).

  • CHILD EDUCATION SPONSORSHIP

Details: Tuition and Scholastic materials of each Bitone child/youth: Primary School, Secondary School and College/University. Our goal is to have each child matched with an individual sponsor. We realize that this might be easier and draws the beneficiary close to his or her sponsor. In case you are interested in sponsoring a child, kindly contact us for details. You may also wish to make a donation through GlobalGiving and indicate which student (child) you would like your donation to benefit. We thank you in advance!

We would love to hear from you and we wish you a happy beginning of April 2012.
