AWBC Concludes 2nd Quarter

By Shay Kaldem | Marketing Coordinator

The Arkansas Women’s Business Center has concluded the second quarter of our 11th year of operation. We are proud to announce that we logged more than 900 hours of counseling and training, with over 850 clients served.

We started the year off with large goals to fulfill as we wanted to help as many businesses navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic. On January 27 we partnered with medical professional Temekis Hampton to discuss best practices for businesses to prevent the spread of COVID-19, limit transmission of other illnesses, and protect in-store products. The next day, we hosted a ServSafe Food Safety Training with Teresa Henson Consulting, LLC.  Participants learned about basic food safety, cross-contamination and allergens, time and temperature, and the importance of cleaning and sanitation. After the workshop, attendees were given the opportunity to take a 60-minute assessment to become certified. We also partnered with our U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) office to host several trainings, including women-owned small business certification and Meet the SBA Resource throughout January.

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Arkansas Women’s Business Center hosted a multitude of trainings, including “How to Start a Business in the State of Arkansas” on March 3 with AWBC Director Chauncey Holloman Pettis. This light-hearted, yet dense, training takes the guesswork out of launching a small business in Arkansas. Geared toward startups and early-stage companies, this training focused on topics such as lean canvas, registering your entity with the state of Arkansas, business licenses, employer identification numbers, and inexpensive best practices.

On March 10 we partnered with Ivan Hudson Agency to offer “Small Business Insurance 101.” Planning for business success is an ongoing task for women-owned businesses, and one unexpected event could trigger setbacks, even for mature organizations. This web-based training focused on business disaster recovery and resilience regarding small business insurance and policies. Attendees learned which insurance to consider at various life cycles of their business, as well as policies to implement to survive when the unexpected occurs.

On March 16 and March 23 we partnered with Mainstream Technologies to offer a two-part Cybersecurity training. As the world becomes more virtual, we know that small businesses need to have best practices in place. These web-based trainings offered participants insight to spam, email phishing, antivirus, multi-factor authentication, and the cybersecurity framework.

We would like to thank all of you for the support you have provided the Arkansas Women’s Business Center through GlobalGiving. For future updates on the project, please visit our website at Winrock International » Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Arkansas.
