This a community based program that utilises the power of sport to impact positively the lives of rural & urban girls from resource constrained families & communities. The program provides safe space for organised sports programs through which girls learn various life skills e.g. teamwork, Leadership, Confidence, learning to say know to sexual advances. This program empowers Girls to make informed Reproductive Health Choices. The program, advocates for Girls Education & stay in School.
In Africa where Uganda is not an exception, girls are traditionally kept in the kitchen & more associated to domestic chores such as fetching water, food, firewood, digging, cooking, washing utensils and looking after their siblings. While boys are offered greater opportunities to explore the world around them through community sports activities. Gender based violence is in-built in African Culture, exposing girls to exploitation, early marriages, abuse, low school enrollment & high HIV rates.
The project exists to create a safer and friendly environment through which, girls can explore their hidden sporting talents, learn about health issues such as HIV/AIDS, Teen pregnancy and participate in economic empowerment projects. Through this program, girls are empowered to stay in School, say no to early marital pressures, turn down parental requests and threats of having them join prostitution at early ages to earn their families a living. The project supports girls education.
The long term program impact is an empowered new generation of girls through sport and education to be able to stand up and advocate for their rights & the rights of the voiceless girls, break barriers between social classes, reduce gender based violence, enhance unity and reconciliation, boost self-confidence and prevent HIV/AID increased new HIV infection rates among girls as a result of poverty and illiteracy.
