The Ark Foundation Shelter for women and children survivors was the first of its kind in Ghana. It is a temporary shelter that seeks to provide a safe and conducive environment for children and women.
A recent national research study has shown that domestic violence for instance, is a serious human rights issue in Ghana, with one out of three women having suffered physical violence at the hands of an intimate partner. Such violence, be it from traditional systems and practices, or from family relationships affect women’s productive capacity and ability to participate in decision making in both private and public space.
The project would provide a safe and conducive environment for children and women fleeing harmful cultural practices, rape, defilement, sexual assault, forced/early marriages and widowhood rites.
• Relief to survivors as a result of their separation from abusive environment • Reduction of trauma and mental pain of survivors of abuse through a holistic support services offered by the Project
