In a country where the average person makes just $1 a day, education is the key to developing healthy, self-reliant, and sustainable communities.
Primary education in Malawi is free, but secondary education (the equivalent of high school in the U.S.) is not. Secondary school often becomes unaffordable for children whose parents are too sick to work or have died. There is a major shortage of working professionals in Malawi, and education is the answer to this shortage.
Equitas will provide school fees and supplies, books, uniforms, and shoes for 25 orphans in three different villages. These children have lost one or both parents, usually from diseases such as AIDS or malaria.
Many children in Malawi don’t finish school because they either have to work in the fields or they cannot afford the school fees. Education can help the people of Malawi rebuild their villages, their families, and their lives.
