Make a difference in the lives of the children most affected by Katrina by providing a safe place for kids to learn and grow after school, on weekends and in the summer.
Of the more than 1 million people displaced by Hurricane Katrina, some 300,000 are children. After the storm, Boys & Girls Club moved quickly to assist children who were forced from their homes. We provide a safe place for kids to recover from the traumatic events, a place to learn, play and make new friends. Currently, there are about 500 displaced kids participating in the programs that will run throughout this school year and next summer.
Boys & Girls Club provides after school programs at Scotlandville Middle School and weekend activities at FEMA trailer parks. We are working with other local agencies to assist in the recovery of children and families affected by the storm.
Boys & Girls Club is committed to our mission to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
