Mission

Social Advancement Through Unity (SATU) intends to promote the socio-economic status of distressed and powerless women through institution building, empowerment, education, economic activities, sanitation and environmental upgradation by mobilizing local resources.

Programs

SATU's development philosophy is based on the conviction that, "the paramount need of people is not relief but release,” for their personal, social and economic development. SATU stresses people-oriented, sustainable development with a bottom-up and participatory approach. SATU's activities, such as micro-enterprise training, micro-credit, health services and flood preparedness, reach over 10,000 women in 283 villages across 5 districts.

Personnel Overview

Hosneara Ahmed - Coordinator, SATU
After completing a Masters in History and training as a lawyer, Hosneara began working in community development in 1986. In 1991, she started SATU which to date has provided micro-loans to start small businesses, education and leadership training for more than 25,000 poor women in the Tangail area. SATU stresses people-oriented, sustainable development with a bottom-up or grassroots approach.
