Thank you to all who donated so that we can teach youth about sustainable house building here on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. We did not quite meet our goal but we got very close, all thanks to your generous support!
Now that we have some money to get started, its time to do just that! A rough draft of the curriculum has already been created. The concept involves 12 lesson plans based on the Woody Guthrie song “Bling Blang”.
A formal request asking permission for copyright use of the song, its lyrics and song title has been sent to The Richmond Organization (copyright owners0) and we are waiting for a response. In the meantime, we will be creating a set of tools and building materials to accommodate class sizes up to 18 students.
This exciting new program will provide students the opportunity to learn to use basic building tools such as hammer and nails, handsaws and tape measures. They will also learn to mix and use natural materials such as clay, sand and straw. Our innovative curriculum will meet state CORE Standards in math, science and reading so it can be easily incorporated into any classroom.
We are still in the process of updating and expanding our website but we will be posting pictures and updates as soon as we have them available.
Thank you once again for your support!
