Nocky is the newest trainee teacher at the English in Mind Institute (EIM) in Port au Prince Haiti. He's learning to be a teacher with the help of fellow teacher Lynda, and we hope to hire him as a full teacher in the 2014 school year. His new job will help him build a more secure future and allow him to pass his knowledge on to hundreds of students. This project will cover his training costs for a full year.
Jobs in Port au Prince are difficult to come by, yet there is actually a shortage of skilled labour in sections of the city. English is a sought after skill that opens doors to jobs, but most schools which teach English are too expensive for most Haitians. EIM teaches English for free, helping adults find work. However, as the school does not charge students, it relies on donors like you for funding so that EIM can keep training Nocky and educating more than 150 students.
By providing the funding we need to train Nocky, we'll be able to not only give Nocky the income he needs to build a secure future, but create another class in 2014 so that we can help more Haitians gain the skills they need to find work and build a future free of poverty.
By training Nocky, you'll create a teacher who will teach English to hundreds of students. Those students will use their language skills to find work and a road out of poverty. The impact of Nocky's work will be felt by hundreds of families for years to come, and your donation will make those positive changes possible.
