India's environment is in trouble - 45% of its land is degraded, air pollution is increasing in all its major cities, and its rare plants and animals are disappearing more rapidly than ever before. Through the Green Rhinos Program, older children and young adults will learn how to implement projects to help local nature conservation efforts, and be a force for nature conservation! On Earth Day 2013 we are training 10 Green Rhino Leaders using funds raised on GlobalGiving.
In India today, nature is being degraded at an alarming pace, and it is affecting the well-being of its people. We need to preserve this "megabiodiversity" and the natural habitats of India before it is too late. By preserving and restoring natural habitats we will protect the species and ecosystems that feed our families, cure our diseases and enrich our culture.
The Green Rhinos Program creates youth nature leaders who take action for nature conservation. On Earth Day, 22 April 2013, we will initiate a six month training for creating 30 Green Rhinos. Orientation on nature conservation along with transformational leadership will be delivered to 10 Green Rhino Leaders who will in turn involve 2 more Green Rhinos and conduct projects for nature conservation locally . They will be assisted by the ASED team with technical and networking support.
The Green Rhinos Program will help young people to learn more about the nature around them, and connect them with it. The projects they conduct will provide them with the experience of making a positive contribution to nature conservation, and empower them to continue this action. The Green Rhinos will impact countless others, spreading awareness and inspiring action in an area that needs it urgently.
