Dear Supporters,

Thank you for your support of our project! Even though the project has been retired we will still put your funds to good use to tell the story of clean energy access in Haiti and are grateful for your support.

At the inauguration of our microgrid in Les Anglais, Haiti last June we worked with two local filmmakers to take over 15 hours of footage of the inauguration, interviews with local stakeholders and government officials as well as shots of the newly electrified town. This footage still needs to be edited but we plan to use it to create a video telling the story of the grid and the town of Les Anglais. The funds raised from this GlobalGiving microproject will be put towards the costs of that video. We’ll be sure to share with our supporters when it comes out. You can also keep an eye out for it on our blog.

As a short update on the work in Haiti we are trying to capture, the Les Anglais microgrid is now up to 440 customers and we plan to connect an additional 15 homes in the next few weeks. Since the grid has started, customers have seen savings of 50-80% over their previous inefficient sources of energy – mainly smoky kerosene lamps and candles.

EarthSpark is also working to foster productive uses of electricity, in particular for agriculture. We recently worked with a local women’s organization to develop a business using an electric corn de-kerneler to strip the corn kernels from dried corn, a laborious task previously done by hand. We have also worked with a local entrepreneur to pilot an electric mill to replace his diesel motor. As we test out these new technologies we will post updates here on GlobalGiving and on our blog. We’re looking forward to telling you about our progress!

Best wishes,

The EarthSpark Team
