This project will fund the installation of 45 solar panels as well as provide sustainable energy education for more than 100 girls at The Mariposa Center for Girls. This is increasingly important as the UN has declared 2014 as the beginning of the "Decade of Sustainable Energy for All". We are extremely proud to be at the forefront of this movement. With your help, The Mariposa Center for Girls will be a shining example for the world of environmental sustainability in the Dominican Republic.
The Mariposa Center for Girls is a 5000 square meter piece of property that serves more than 100 girls six days a week. With music, sewing, art, theatre, computer classes and much, much more, our energy needs are steadily increasing and solar panels will help us power our center sustainably and educate our girls on the importance of renewable energy sources.
We will install 45 donated solar panels on our property, making The Mariposa Center for Girls a pioneer in solar energy in our community.
Energy is critical to sustainable development and poverty reduction efforts. A reliable, constant source of electricity will help increase our use of technology for educational purposes at our center. Energy services are essential for socio-economic development, since they yield social benefits and support income and employment generation. The UN unanimously declared the decade 20142024 as the Decade of Sustainable Energy for All and Mariposa will be at the forefront of this critical movement.
