Summary

ASANA was selected by online voting, facebook "likes", and PeaceJam and its 1 Billion Acts Campaign as the 2015 recipient of the Hero Award/Best Non-profit Act! This is a huge accomplishment for ASANA, the Path of the Tapir Biological Corridor and the Local Council that governs it, the Savegre River Watershed, and Costa Rica in general. It shows just how important our work is to local, national, and global conservation and sustainable development. This campaign will fund Andrea's travel costs.

Challenge

ASANA is dedicated to conservation and sustainable development along Costa Rica's Central and Southern Pacific Coast. ASANA organizes local stakeholders to take part in local initiatives to protect the environment and improve their quality of life. ASANA works to raise awareness related to the importance of conserving important habitat, biodiversity, freshwater resources, and coastal areas.

Solution

Receiving the 2015 Hero Award helps ASANA spread the word here in Costa Rica and around the world about our important work. Getting Andrea to the Monte Carlo Festival de Television on June 14 to receive the award from Nobel Peace Prize laureate Adolfo Perez Esquivel would be a tremendous honor - and opportunity - for ASANA and all the individuals, communities, groups, and organizations with which we work. Our participation in this event would launch ASANA to a new level of visibility and impact.

Long-Term Impact

ASANA's tag line is "Conserving nature. Preserving life." That sums up our mission and the basic tenet that guides us: For local communities to enjoy healthy and productive lives, they must live within a healthy and productive environment. ASANA invests heavily in conservation in order to protect some of the world's most unique plants and animals and provide local communities with clean water, a beautiful place to live, and nature-based economic opportunities.
