The project aims to train 25 women prisoners in Trichy Special Prison for Women in tailoring. This will provide these women with an alternate livelihood opportunity. Once they get out of the prison after their imprisonment period is over, they will indulge in a dignified activity that will fetch them income to feed their mouth and their dependents. They will be counseled during the training to leave their past activities, face the world with courage and lead a dignified life.
Discharged prisoners (DPs) are amongst the most vulnerable to domestic, social, institutional exclusion and isolation. Hence their rehabilitation includes a package of preparing them through counseling; Imparting skills required; to motivate them to take up self-employment opportunities. If they are not provided with an alternate livelihood skill or activity they are forced to involve in criminal activities to feed their families. Hence an alternate livelihood training is essential.
Tailoring training will be provided to 25 women prisoners in the Special Prison for Women, Trichy. The training will be a composite pack of skill training, counseling and motivation. This will train the women prisoners in tailoring, counseling will be given to remove their mental blocks and motivation will be done to encourage them take up their own ventures. Hence we help 25 women priosners lead a dignified life. Thus we contribute to a crime free world in our own way though in a small way.
Training the to be discharged prisoners will help in creating confidence and courage to face the community besides providing an opportunity to find a livelihood option. Engaging them in income earning activities reduces the return rate in prison.
