Tinei (seven years old) and his brother Shainai (four years old) are orphans who live in Karanda in Mashonaland Central, Zimbabwe. They stay with their grandmother who is seventy two years old.
Thanks to your donation, this small family is running a successful piggery project that has transformed their lives as evidenced by the children’s smiles and enthusiasm when they explain how the project is working and how it has benefited them. The grandmother starts by pointing out that since her grandchildren were orphaned, they did not have any means of generating income, so they didn't have much hope and didn't know how she'd be able to take care of the children.
AFCA gave them two female pigs. The pigs gave birth to nine piglets between them, bringing the total number of pigs to eleven. Sadly, two piglets died of internal parasites, but the others are doing really well. At this point, the family has passed on two mature pigs that has another family start a piggery project. They sold two pigs and used the money for medical bills, school fees, uniforms and food, doing exactly what we want this project to do...help families become self-sufficient.
The children and their grandma have a whole new outlook on life. You can see the difference in their faces and in their dedication of feeding and cleaning the pens. When we got there we found the little ones cleaning out the pen and watering the pigs. They were so cute! And they were proud to help their grandma.
This project has given them hope and that is all they need to get them through these tough years.
Thank you for being part of this and please consider supporting another AFCA project, as we have lots of good work happening!
