Clean water can cost up to $9,000 per year to support a school - it's crazy! Clean water is a critical part of health care, nutrition and vitality for our girls. So, More Than Me is setting up a rain filtration system that will significantly reduce the cost of clean water supply and provide the opportunity to generate revenue through the sale of clean water to local companies and individuals.
The significant cost of water would be prohibitive for the sustainability of food and health programs that are critical to the success of the More Than Me Academy.
Containers to hold the rain water cost about $15,000 initially. This project will offset that cost and help bring our annual costs from $9,000 per year for clean water to just $1,000 per year!
Educating one girl can change everything. Here's why: When a girl in the developing world receives seven or more years of education, she marries 4 years later and has 2.2 fewer children. An extra year of primary school boosts girls' eventual wages by 10 to 20%. An extra year of secondary school: 15 to 25%. When women and girls earn income, they reinvest 90% of it into their families. When we invest in girls we all win. This academy will effect over 500 girls directly and 1,000's more indirectly.
