Our first Microproject through Global Giving has closed and we are so pleased with the results. Our main goal was to create consistency in school for our most vulnerable youth members. In just three months we raised enough money to help completely pay for the fees of 10 primary school students and 5 secondary school students for the whole year. It will also help us cover small fees and expenses for those youth who are just short of covering all of their costs.
This fundraiser will ensure that students like Sara, who has received school support from Equip Manyatta through the Manyatta Youth Resource Center since 2012, will continue to go to school uninterrupted. Sara is a founding member of our girl’s soccer teams and is the leader of the under-16 Manyatta United team. Through the MYRC’s soccer program, Sara, along with 20 other Manyatta United girl players, received a scholarship to St Paul Abwao, a private boarding school outside of Kisumu. Through our sponsorship program, the remainder of Sara’s expenses, such as boarding fees, transportation, food and clothing, are ensured. Sara’s mother passed away due to HIV/AIDS and while in Kisumu she lives in a one-room tin home with her elderly father and her younger brother who was infected with HIV at birth. Sara is not infected but still faces a dire future unless she can get the education she deserves.
We will be doing more microprojects like this in the future, so if supporting education, specifically for girls, is important to you, please continue to support our education-based microprojects.
