Project Urica will reduce youth unemployment and get more graduates to set up businesses instead of looking for corporate jobs which are few and far between. It will give Urica a viable business and jobs to 3 youth immediately. It will in the long term create over 1000 jobs. It will give Urica a steady income and a new life. It will have a domino effect in getting more youth out of poverty via self-employment and encourage support by donors, government and individual for graduate entrepreneurs.
"Project Urica" will give Urica a lucrative business, a steady income and create jobs for several unemployed youth. It will augment the incubation facilities and services provided to her by Totally Youth, to become self-reliant and start her 1st restaurant in three months. Urica is an unemployed young woman who has been selling food since age 11 to help pay for her education. She is now a qualified caterer selling food from ice chests, which only allows for a hand-to-mouth existence.
Urica is in incubation at Totally Youth (TY). She has free access to TY's functional Catering Center, Event Space, Internet, and laptop. She and her 3 staff members are mentored, tutored and groomed to succeed in the catering business. The US$3,300 will augment the support she is receiving at TY, to make her self-reliant to set up a restaurant with her staff and clients in 3 months. U$3300 will cover registration, transport, meals, consumables, laptop, printer, 3 months rent, staff allowances.
Domino effect of more unemployed youth starting their own business. Increase in number of jobs available to unemployed graduates due to growth in existing SMEs and annual creation of more SMEs, engendering policies and more support for graduate SMEs, effecting requisite changes in syllabi in tertiary institutions and increasing confidence of donors to support more graduate SMEs due to proven success. Availability of concepts and lessons learnt for more NGOs & Angels to support graduate business.
