Project in action ! Why this project " Jobs for Cambodian Youth" is  important

One of the ways Kasumisou Foundation works to maximize results in its programs is by looking at challenges and opportunities together . Jobs for Cambodian Youth is a great example of this. We often hear t he old saying that if you give  a hungry man a fish it will feed him today but if you can teach  him to fish , it can feed him for a lifetime .

We utilize this approach in managing our scarce  resources.

This summer , another two students, each  more than 10 years  under the care and guidance of our AIDS Patient Family Support Program, are now ready to graduate from High School . Both will sit for the national high school  exam in August and assuming that they pass, both will enter our Build Dreams! program that helps Cambodian students to be able to attend college.

These students are so close but yet so far from achieving their dreams of college. Both come from such modest background that without the opportunity for safe part time employment, neither would have funds for transportation to classes and modest personal expenses, placing their dreams out of reach.

Instead, employment from our Jobs for Cambodian Youth project will give them job experience, foster an attitude of helping others and provide the small funds needed to pay transportation and other modest personal expenses.

Vichet, age 20,  has been under our program’s guidance and care since 2002 and comes from a  resettlement area on the outskirts of Phnom Penh. Vichet was orphaned ( by AIDS) and lives with his Grandmother and an orphaned 11 year old niece.

Ravin, age 18, has been in our program since age 4 and has dreams of studying Chemistry and Food Science. There are few safe part time jobs, most are for bar girl or factory worker. Instead we will work to find or create safe part time work. i

These opportunities are made possible by the generous financial support of you, our donors.

We are so grateful for your continued appreciation and support of our efforts.
