*Thembi is an orphan living in Bulawayo who became pregnant at 15 after being raped by her uncle. When Thembi went to the police, she was forced out of her home and received death threats from her family for bringing charges against the uncle. We need $600 to pay the legal fees so that Thembi can legally inherit the house owned by her late mother and provide a safe home for her and her child. *NB not real name.
Our project delivery partner, Trinity Project, have been appointed as executors of Thembi's late mother's estate. This allowed us to evict the relatives who had been illegally squatting there, and return the house to Thembi and her child. However, we now have to 'administer' the estate of her late mother in order to give Thembi legal ownership of the house, and the long term security this will ensure.
Due to the nature of this case, administering the estate of Thembi's late mother involves many costs which neither Thembi, ZET, or Trinity Project have the capacity to cover. This micro project will ensure that we can cover these costs and provide Thembi with a safe and secure place to live as she seeks to rebuild her life.
In the past, Thembi was always one of the top pupils in her class at school. Since her ordeal began over two years ago, she has been forced to drop out of school and currently has no means to pay for her education. However, she is desparate to return to school. By legally transferring the house into Thembi's name, we can give her the long term security she needs as she starts to rebuild her life.
