Rafael accidentally stepped on a electric cord 19 years ago. He used to work in a farm. After the accident, his life changed completely, which was rough on him. It affected his family and work. He felt he was not able to complete tasks. By having a prosthetic limb he will be able to be comfortable when walking. He would be able to ride on a bike and feel less tired. With your support he feels he will be better at his job selling candies on the park.
Around 20.000 Colombian people have suffered limb amputation due to land mines, armed conflict, traffic accidents, work place accidents and health related problems. In most cases amputees can't go to school, youths can't engage in higher education, and they can't participate in labor, cultural or social activities. The rest of the family is also affected, especially the care giver, who can't engage in other activities. In most cases Colombian amputees can't afford the cost of the prosthesis.
Mahavir Kmina helps lower limb amputees through medical consultation, production and fitting of the artificial limb, physical therapy and psychological support. Thanks to Mahavir Kmina, an affected person by lower limb amputation can have more opportunities to go back to school, college, and work, and participate in normal daily activities. In this opportunity we would like to support specific cases in which beneficiaries are not able to afford the travel cost to Mahavir Kmina's Limb Center.
Makavir Kmina provides prostheses to 250 amputees per year. This microproject will provide a lower limb prostheses to Rafael and the transportation costs he needs for the fitting. This will allow him to become independent in his daily life activities. Rafael will have the opportunity to return to his work, thus improving his living conditions and those of the people around him.
