We’d like to extend a huge thanks to everyone who’s donated to support the mothers of Buklod Tao. These women are working every day to create a better future for their families and their community. Their efforts are part of the work of Filipino community group “Buklod Tao” (“People Coming Together”).

The funds you’ve given will help the mothers expand their work selling products made from recycled trash. The process of making and selling the bags creates jobs at every level. Teams of women at the community level collect, clean, and deliver usable trash which is purchased by the mothers.

Additional teams of women skilled in sewing then take that “trash” and turn it into bags. Finally, sales women take those products and sell them, sharing the profit with the sewers.

The money that you’ve given will be used to perfect a new product – a waterproof, lined purse! Head-sewer Agnus designed the new purse, which is made of off-cuts left over when the women make another of their products.

“The new bags have a very different look than most of our products, so we hope to sell them to a new audience!”

Your generous donations will be used to take this new product from prototype to market. This means that, because of you, the mothers of Buklod Tao will be able to help more women in their community make an environmentally friendly living!

We’ll be sending out regular updates about how the mothers’ work is changing lives through this project’s parent project, Help Filipino Communities Prepare for Disaster. If you ever have any additional questions about how we’re using your donation, please email Emma@IDVolunteers.org.

Thanks again for your donation, and very kind regards!
