This project will provide a new artificial leg for Kleider, a 34 year old fisherman from a tiny seaside village in the pacific coast of Colombia. Klider was shot by a drunk policeman last year, and due to the remote location of his hometown he did not arrive on time to the hospital to save his leg.
Kleider is a fisherman from the tiny village of Jurado in the pacific coast of Colombia. After a Christmas party last year, he was walking back to his house when a drunk policeman shot him in the leg. Kleider was taken via the river to the small health out post in town and it took him 4 days to get to the nearest hospital, by then his leg was infected and had to be amputated. Kleider can no longer fish or cultivate vegetables to support his family because he cannot even affort crutches.
Providing Kleider with a prosthetic leg, will help him put behind this painful experience and go back to work to provide for his wife and young family. A new leg will allow him to fish and cultivate again and return to his normal life. Become more independent and walk proudly to a brighter future for him and his family.
Makavir Kmina provides prostheses to 250 amputees per year. This project will provide in a one-year period, prostheses to 20 children and youth between 1 and 25 years old who have suffered lower limb amputation allowing them to become independent in their daily life activities. This is important because they will have the opportunity to return to school, college or work, thus improving their living conditions and those of the people around them.
