This project will greatly benefit a beautiful little girl who suffers with seizures. Having a companion by her side at all times will also bring some much-needed peace to her family. A seizure-response service dog will provide comfort at night as Ella will be watched over constantly. Seizure response dogs are a special type of service dog, specifically trained to help someone who has epilepsy or a seizure disorder.
Currently, someone always has to be with Ella and if she has a seizure, someone needs to stay with her but she also needs rescue medications. Ella is also afraid to be by herself. Having a companion with her constantly will relieve her anxiety. It is difficult to allow her to be a normal kid because her parents are always on guard because her seizures come so quickly without notice.
Her family is looking forward to Ella forming an attachment to her new friend. A service dog will give her a sense of calmness and pleasure, along with a little independence.
This particular project will provide seizure-response dogs for people living with epilepsy, greatly increasing their chances of surviving life-threatening episodes that may arise. This project will also raise awareness about SUDEP to encourage further support of individuals living with epilepsy, their families, and their communities.
