This project will provide a year of English Education for Bengie. Bengie dreams of sending her son to college, but at the moment she struggles just to put food on his plate. Bengie knows that to send her son to school, she needs to find a job. That's why she's determined to keep studying at English. With English, she'll be able to find gainful employment so that she can educate her son.
More than two thirds of Haitian adults lack formal employment and more than 50% of the population lives on less than $1.25 a day. Despite high unemployment, there is actually a shortage of skilled labour in Port au Prince. English speakers can find work in hotels, restaurants, and offices, yet there are virtually no free English schools. Most Haitians, including Bengie, cannot afford to attend these schools. Without the means to develop their skills, many are left trapped in poverty.
By ensuring that Bengie can continue studying English for free at the English in Mind Institute, you can help her develop the skills she needs to find gainful employment. That employment will allow Bengie to feed her kids healthy food, educate them, and help them escape the poverty which has held her back!
Your donations will give Bengie the means to find work and break the cycle of poverty not only for herself, but for her children as well. She'll be able to keep them in school, ensuring that they follow in her footsteps toward gainful employment and a prosperous future.
