This micro project will train 50 rural school girls to make re usable sanitary pads in Mpigi.About 70% of women and girls in Uganda cannot afford sanitary pads.The project will pay facilitators to train girls and women in our community to make their own pads.Making reusable pads will create a world where women and girls can step boldly into the promise of their future.The project will also enable girls and women in this community to make money as they will be able to spare some for sale.
Absence of pads make girls to regularly be absent from school, they are likely to drop out and fail to transit successfully through the education system. By reducing the number of days of absence, it is anticipated that retention and transition rates amongst girls at individual schools could improve by up to 65%. The ability of women and girls to generate income and own assets will ensure food security, material well-being and social status.
The project will improve school attendance among girls between the ages of 9 and 18 years in primary and secondary schools,the economic status of women will improve as they will be able to sell some pads to the shops.Up to 1000 girls from this community within 10 primary and 5 secondary schools will benefit from the project.
To ensure product continuity and quality on a continuous basis, we will train trainers of trainers (TOTs) who will also train other girls and women in the community to make them, also different types of materials will be acquired for each based on availability and their characteristics (absorption, water repellent, etc)
