Luz Erlender Leal is a 30 year-old single mother of 2. Luz's life change 10 years ago when she was walking to the rural municipality of La Ceja from her parents little house in the mountains, and she stepped on a landmine. Luz spent time in a coma and lost her leg, which made the task of taking care of her young babies and working full-time, this project will give her a prosthesis and allow her to use both her leg and hands to work and more importantly play with her kids.
Luz lost her leg when she was a victim to one of the thousand of land mines that threaten the lives of rural people in Colombia. She works long hours at a restaurant, but seen she has to move around in crutches and she has to remain sitting down almost the entire time which prevents her from getting a better paying job as a waitress, and even worse does not allow her to play with her children and walk them to school safely, her worst fear is they have to walk alone in dangerous roads.
With your help we will give Luz a new leg and the possibility to get a better job, and walk her children to school safely, making sure they are not hurt in the same way she was. With her prostheses, Luz will not only be able to walk, run and play with her kids but she will also regain use of her hands which she now uses to move around with her crutches she will be able to cook and care for her family more easily and get better economic opportunities for her and her children.
