It's estimated up to 12 million people, many of them children, could be affected by Cyclone Phailin in India. Our teams will be working to ensure children are safe and that families in the area have access to what they need - things like shelter, clean water, food, healthcare and safe places for children to play. Just $25 can pay for a kit for a child whose life has been devastated by the cyclone, including basics like three sets of clothes, shoes, notebooks, crayons, a toy and a lunch box.
Nearly one million people were evacuated when Cyclone Phailin struck the east coast of India at category 5 strength with winds over 125 miles per hour. Too many impoverished children have lost everything - their homes, their families' crops and all of their belongings due to the powerful Cyclone Phailin. This project will help children recover from the disaster and will provide the basics such as food, water, health care and safety. It will also help families rebuild their lives.
Save the Children will be providing the basics that families need to help their children in the aftermath of Cyclone Phailin. We'll provide baby kits for mothers with newborns, ceramic water filters to produce safe drinking water, clothes, shoes, toys, blankets and more. As the flood waters recede, we will provide treatment and preventive care for water-borne illnesses and mosquito nets to protect children from malaria.
At Save the Children, we've learned that a small amount of money can make a big difference. This project can provide 100 disaster recovery kits for children devastated by Cyclone Phailin.
