Loosing a leg can be deeply life-changing experience. Beatriz lost her leg in a terrible accident in 2006, she was crossing a railroad, when she fell down and was hit in her legs by the passing train. The accident left Beatriz with low self-esteem and the impossibility to provide for her family.
Beatriz lives in Puerto Nare, a small town located at the South East of Antioquia, Colombia; she is the mother of two young women and the grandmother of three beautiful children.
This microproject was retired before we could achieve our US$ 1,410 goal, but we did not give up. We worked tirelessly to fund the rest of the prostheses; traveling costs and the psychological help so that Beatriz could recover her mobility and once again be the independent woman she once was.
Since Beatriz received her prostheses, she has been able to move around independently again, play with her grandchildren and recover her self-esteem. She always used crutches or the support of a family member to walk. After getting her prosthetic leg Beatriz has, for the first time in 7 years, been able to use her hands to do ordinary things such as showering or putting on her clothes, and she can now walk on her own.
Not being able to work brought dire economic consequences to her and her family, but worst of all it brought her sadness and psychological affections. When she lost her mobility, Beatriz also lost some of her self-confidence. Now, she will be able to work again and be an independent woman once more.
Thanks to the generous support of our donors like you and efforts from our team and allies, Beatriz can now play with her grandkids and do ordinary things by herself.
We encourage you to share Beatriz’s story with your friends and family lots of people can hear about the wonderful things that Mahavir Kmina Limb Center can achieve with the support of people like you.
Once again thank you!
