Thanks so much for giving in support of young people like Aryln! Because of you, youth leaders will be able to keep organising enriching activities to help vulnerable young adults stay in school and become more involved in protecting their environment.

The youths of Buklod Ng Kabataan have been busy while this project has been running on GlobalGiving. They’ve been working with Green Peace to learn how local communities can become advocates for clean rivers. We asked the kids to write about how the programme, called “Water Patrol”, in their latest blog. Here’s what they said:

"In the Philippines many of our rivers are polluted by big companies and factories... The whole purpose of Water Patrol is to encourage and persuade local government to pass bills which force factories to notify the public about what chemicals and pollutants they are putting in their water. This will mean that the communities surrounding the rivers and other water sources will know what is in their water…We are working with communities to raise awareness so that the bill can have the backing it needs to pass. In the grand scheme, we hope that if we make a difference in one community it will help spread to the others!"

Water pollution is a big problem which will affect young people like Arlyn well into the future. By coming together to tackle the problem, Aryln and the other members of Buklod Ng Kabataan can create a more sustainable tomorrow.

Water Patrol isn’t the only activity these inspiring young people are undertaking. They’re also supporting one and other academically so that everyone can stay in school while also planning future art and theatre activities to encourage even more youth activism. We’ll be providing updates on all these exciting developments in the coming months so we hope you’ll stay tuned!

Thanks again for supporting young people like Arlyn, and we wish you the very best from Banaba!
Kind Regards,
Emma Taylor
