Two students from Fiadanana successfully passed the CEPE exam in August and are eligible to attend secondary school. The only secondary school is over 2 hours walk from their village. (See Project reports CEPE.) Zahana will rent a house where the students can live, study and and cook their own meals during the week. It will cost a dollar a day for school fees, accommodation, food, and school supplies per child to attend secondary school away from home for one student for a year.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The only secondary school is over 2 hours walk from their village in Bevato the district seat, so children are unable to attend.
How will this project solve this problem?
Zahana will rent a house where the students can live, study and cook their own meals during the week. Providing them with a place to live and with the food to eat, empowers them to attend secondary school far from home, and allows them to walk home to their families on weekends.
Potential Long Term Impact
Successfully passing the CEPE is major achievement and cultural event in Madagascar. While their parents are very proud, they are too poor to send their children to secondary school. Getting a secondary education is a stepping-stone to a better life that seemed unobtainable even some five years ago in a poor rural village in Madagscar.
