It has been such a busy year! and the greatest thing I am happy to note;all of you have been part of the milestones achieved within the year. We dont take this for granted, we thank you for your commitment and support to our project. Your generosity brings impact to hundreds of lives of persons with disabilities.
As we reflect on the impact created: giving several people the power to walk, restoring dignity in their lives and allowing them to live independent lives in the community. There is an opportunity to even do more in the coming year, your support and that of your friends will definately go a long way in meeting the needs of our target audience.
We thank you so much and take this opportunity to wish you all the best during this Christmas holidays and a happy new year.
It is possible to forget how important our small acts of kindness means to people who experience difficulties with mobility. A group that is struggling to accept their situation brought about by either an accident or a disease that made them loose the ability to walk without any support.
This is the reason we write to thank you for bringing happiness and restoring dignity in the lives of young people with disabilities in Kenya through your donations, some of which we buy walking aids such as elbow crutches, wheelchairs, white cane amongst other assistive devices.
A mobility aid is one of the essential enabler to any person who has a disability and looks forth to lead an independent life, to be able to determine where they want to go, what they can do on their own without relying on anyone for support.
Through your support, we continue to avail this much-needed enabler to facilitate movement by persons with disabilities in society without becoming a bother to other members in the family, the cost can be beyond reach for many and this forms the reason why the mobility aids are distributed free of charge when you donate them.
We thank you and do request for your continued partnership in giving power to walk to every person with a disability who deserves it.
On 16th August 2013, we had the opportunity to be visited by the GlobalGiving field representative for East Africa, Farley Sawyer. It was a rare moment since she had the opportunity to gather fast hand information on how proceeds received from the online donation framework of GlobalGiving create impact within the community that we serve.
Farley sought to understand how the whole program works and our Executive Director was available to provide this information together with the administration officer before she joined ANDY staff in handing over some of the assistive devices purchased through the donations to identified beneficiaries.
On this material day, Farley helped distribute four wheelchairs and two pairs of elbow crutches to persons with disabilities from Kibera. This will help improve the mobility and self-reliance of the beneficiaries.
Being able to move around and perform duties on their own is a key ingredient towards boosting the self-esteem of persons with disabilities that enables them participate in nation building without hindrance.
One parent remarked on how happy she was since her daughter will now be able to walk around with ease using the donated wheelchair.
We thank you all for remaining steadfast in supporting us to carry out this important work in the community. Thank you so much for referring your friends to partner with us in this venture to ensure that the mobility of persons with disabilities is restored through the assistive devices.
We are currently updating our website and will inform you once the new refurbished website is up with more change stories from the people we serve in communities.
