Mission

It is our mission to help and educate more orphans and abandoned children. For this purpose we intend to purchase a piece of land (30 acres) upon which we will set up nursery, primary school and a sprawling children 's village, complete with all necessary amenities. In addition, we also plan to establish a clinic, vocational training center and workshops that will benefit surrounding communities as well poor Widows will be availed small business loans to set up income-generating enterprises and improve their standard of living. PROBLEM STATEMENT Today, many orphans and widows in Northern Uganda live a needy lifestyle. This is as a result of the untimely LRA civil war, natural hazards and epidemics such as cholera and Ebola, which claim many lives and cause prolonged sufferings to the poor who are hardest hit. The HIV / AIDS pandemic too, has shown no compassion to human dignity and hitherto makes poverty an upward trend each passing day. Almost one out of four Ugandan adults is infected with HIV/AIDS. 2.2 million children have been orphaned; 1.8 million widowed and 1.2 million are carriers (current report from AIDS Information Center, Kampala-Uganda). Suddenly, grandparents find themselves struggling to feed their orphaned grandchildren. Children from such families find themselves dropping out of school after the death of their parents and thereafter lead wasteful lives as street children and drug addicts. The situation here in northern Uganda is spiraling out of control and therefore some intervention of sorts is required to stem the harrowing tide of suffering ensuing unabated. It is on this premise that we formed HOWCA. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES -To provide formal education to the orphans through building nursery, primary and eventually secondary -To provide homes (orphanages) for the orphans. -Support widows in small businesses by providing training, micro loans and start-up funds. -To introduce and develop activities directed towards the spiritual, moral well being of orphans and widows. -To conduct HIV/AIDS awareness and eradication campaigns. Sensitize and educate the parents and general public about the rights of children and why child abuse should be condemned. -To encourage any grass-root economic activities that can lead to indigenous development like crop production, livestock farming, poultry keeping and fishing. -To do any other activities as shall be deemed necessary for the fulfillment of the objectives of the association.

Programs

We do currently have Child Education sponsorship project, where we are looking for Donors to fund Educational programs, for these needy orphans, through provision of school /tuition fees, scholastic materials like books, pens , uniforms and medical care. Under Micro finance project, we are training Women (widows) in micro business skills and management, where we currently have over 300 Widows who are members of HOWCA. We are now seeking for funds to implement Micro loans program as many widows have been trained but luck funds to boast up their businesses and start up.
