A day in Scotty's life.

Thank you very much for contributing towards Scotty’s food for the year!

With your donation we were able to provide Scotty with meat for the next 1.5 months!

We still need more though, our goal is to achieve a year’s food, so please keep the good work going.

Our African Hawk Eagle Scotty is looking good, she even is trying to use his injured wing more. It is going in the positive direction. She really enjoys taking her daily bath.

The local children we teach every week usually don’t know a lot about eagles. And they don’t see them as these beautiful animals, but more as a burden. Luckily we have our African Hawk Eagle that changes their opinion.

Thank you very much for your support toward Scotty’s food!

Best regards,

Ian and Michele Merrifield

Inspired local students want to become a vet!

Cindy
Cindy's letter

Dear Supporting Friends,

As most of you know Herbie came to live with us at Daktari about six months ago.  Herbie is a cross between a Bush pig and a Domestic pig.  A couple of weeks ago Peter Rogers our local vet came to visit Herbie as he was becoming quite aggressive and difficult to manage.  It was decided that it was best to have him neutered.  The children who were staying at Daktari at the time joined Peter in the operation.  Some of them didn’t realize there were special doctors for animals called Vets. We all found the operation very interesting but a bit messy!!

For a few days after the operation, Herbie was a little bit sore and we had to make sure he kept dry (no swimming in the dam!).  Now however he is much happier and not aggressive at all, for some reason now he even likes men…?  He’s now back walking with the dogs twice a day and he swims in the dam and wallows in the mud, which is his favorite thing to do!  Herbie is now a VERY happy, social pig and makes us laugh on a daily basis!

Here is one of the letters that a student wrote to the vet:

Dear Dr Peter Rogers

First of all I would like to greet you and your family. The thing that me write this letter is because I wanted to thank you for helping Herbie the pig, that was very kind of you for doing an operation on the pig, and you realy showed us something we had never seen before. I learned something important so that if the animals are sick I will call you. I don’t have much words to say but I just wanted to say Thank You.

Yours faithfully

Cindy

Students tell you what they learn at the eco-club.

Thank you for all your amazing support and donations through GlobalGiving. With this money we are able to support, teach and guide these students on a weekly basis.

Who can tell and show you better what the project is about then the students themselves. These underprivileged students started in the eco-club last year, they were shy and had no idea what they wanted for themselves. They didn’t think much further then their matric (exam at the end of high school).  Now they have grown, they are confident and full of dreams and ideas. Just have a look at these amazing high school students:
