Warm greetings.
The new academic school year (2009/2010) is under way and we are happy to report that twenty-seven (27) students have benefited from the scholarship scheme. Two of the students (Thomasia and Timothy) have graduated from primary to secondary school. The parents and students are very grateful to GlobalGiving for sponsoring their children’s education.
Below is a testimonial from Isata, one of the beneficiaries. Your donations are paying for her school fees, and helping to provide books and school supplies.
“I am very grateful to GlobalGiving and Develop Africa for giving the opportunity to go to school. My mother is a poor single parent, hawking / retailing charcoal for our survival. She could not afford to send me to school. I was out of school, helping her sell charcoal until I met the representative of Develop Africa, who helped enrolled me into school, through the sponsorship of GlobalGiving. I promise to work hard and excel in school so that I in turn will be able to help less fortunate children like me. GlobalGiving donors, thank you very much. You have given me hope and a future.”
The photos show some of the children who have benefited from your support and donations. You will notice that they are proudly holding GlobalGiving signs / stickers. In the coming year, we hope to expand the sponsorship scheme to other deprived communities, where there are equally desperate needs for support. We hope to add at least 10 new beneficiaries to the scheme - bringing hope to many more.
With this in mind, we welcome your donations between now and the end of the year that would enable us to continue to impact many more lives like Isata's. Thanks for your support and for making a donation today!
We would also be happy to hear from you - so feel free to send us any comments and suggestions you may have on how we can do even more. We would be so happy to hear from you.
Best wishes

Warm greetings
We are very happy to report that we have shipped out a set of computers with exceptional software for the computer lab. These computers have been set up with a special educational suite that is ideal for self-learning and instructor-led learning.
This educational software will convert a PC (sometimes even an older PC) into an educational workstation which doesn't need to be connected to the internet (which is a real issue to consider in Africa), but supplies all the necessary educational tools and information. Full details are available in the attached PDF file. Please take a moment to review this. A photo showing the desktop of one of the computers is also provided below. We anticipate that the computers will get to Sierra Leone by the end of January.
The building that will house the computer lab is under construction and slated to be completed next year. The building will house several other classrooms. Progress has been slow but sure.
We are happy to be finally making tangible progress and we look forward to getting the lab up soon. With the software that we have obtained the lab will significantly enhance learning opportunities.
We look forward to your on-going support as we utilize the tool of technology to enhance education. We welcome your donation today to help us furnish and finish setting up the computer lab. Thank you so much for your support!
Warm greetings
We have some bad news and some good news to report:
The bad news: Just recently there we ran across an article linked below. Here is an excerpt from the article:
"The most dangerous type of malaria-carrying mosquito, which kills up to a million people each year, is evolving into two different species, posing grave problems for controlling the transmission of the blood parasite."
Fortunately - even in this dark cloud, there is a silver lining in the article:
"Our studies help us to understand the makeup of the mosquitoes that transmit malaria, so that we can find new ways of preventing them from infecting people."
Here's the very good news - that is worth telling all your friends: Together we are continuing to provide insecticide-treated nets that have been proven to be very effective as a shield against mosquito bites. I can also attest from personal experience that they do make a huge difference.
The attached photo shows some of the beneficiaries with nets that your donations have helped to provide. We are excited about this opportunity that is making a significant impact - saving them from sickness, lost time at work or school, lost finances through medication etc.
We look forward to saving even more lives with your on-going support! Please share this update with a friend / family member and make a donation today. Thanks for your support!
