The Amazing Work Continues

Dear Supporters,

The wonderful work of New Light continues to thrill us as we continue to see Urmi Basu, the founder and director of New Light be reognized as a rare leader.

Urmi Basi founded New Light India in 2000 to promote gender equality and fight violence and abuse of women, girl children and young people. The initiative today provides care and support to more than a thousand people. The organization fights against child prostitution and trafficking and protects young girls, children and women who are at high risk in their community by providing safe shelters and housing, educational opportunities, health care, and legal aid.

Please take a look at these two videos about the project.

The Wonderful Moringa Tree

Dear Supporter,

We are so pleased to report that the tree project is progressing and we have learned a lot since we began. Because of you, trees have been planted far and wide. True, some were eaten by animals, and others didn't survive for one reason or another but as a whole, thousands of trees have been planted because of you.

People are harvesting leaves, drying them and adding them to the food of children in feeding programs. The children are getting a boost of protein and nutrients not found in their daily porrage. Many children have learned about why trees are important and the benefit of moringa.

We are hoping to start the oil press program for womens' groups as we have maturing trees.

We continue to thank you for providing us with the opportunity to plant more trees and to support more programs.

Thank you,

In Progress and Growing

girls dormitory progress
girls dormitory progress

Dear Donor,

Thank you for your support in contructing a girls dormitory at Pathfinder Academy. We did get a Google grant but the building still needs funds to finish.

With your help, we have all of the windows and doors made and ready to be installed. All of the windows are metallic without metal grills  for safety concerns as advised by the Minstry of Educaiton. All of the rooms are framed and ready for plastering. The roof trusses are almost done too. We bought natural building stone blocks for the construction of the septic tank and water tanks that will be placed near the dormitory for washrooms for the girls. Funds are still needed for roofing sheets and plastering materials.

When this project is done, the girls will be safe and sound at school.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,

Shana Greene, Executive Director
