East Mississippi Animal Rescue

East Mississippi Animal Rescue started in 2001 and is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue and re-homing of abandoned animals in East Mississippi. Each animal is given basic medical care and, if at an appropriate age, is spayed or neutered. The adoption fee charged for puppies or kittens includes a spay or neuter fee so the procedure can be done when the animal is old enough. Adoption fees also help cover routine veterinary costs.Rescue expenses are funded by donations and adoption fees

May 2014 Update

Mork and Mindy
Mork and Mindy

In this quarter's project update, we would like to share with you the story of Mork, Mindy, and their mother, Penny.

Penny was pulled from a local kill shelter. She was pregnant at the time. Soon after she was brought into our care here at EMAR, it was time for her babies to make their grand entrance! Penny went into labor late at night. One puppy was delivered, then another, and finally one more, bringing us to a final number of 3. Sadly, the last puppy to be born did not survive the night.

Due to Penny being a Maltese-Yorkie mix, or Morkie, we chose to name her two surviving puppies Mork and Mindy.

This past week, Penny went to her forever home and we are so happy for her! Often times in rescue, the puppies go first and the mother is left behind. She is fitting in well with her new family, including her two new Schnauzer brothers. The puppies, Mork and Mindy, will be going to their forever homes soon, too.

Donations such as the ones you provide help ensure we are able to continue helping animals like Penny, Mork, and Minday.

We thank you for your continued support. Penny and her pups thank you too!

January 2014 Update

Today, we at East Mississippi Animal Rescue would like to spotlight an animal that YOU have helped with your donations. Captain came to us from the local animal control facility. One of his front legs had bone exposed from an old injury. Once in our care, Captain received proper veterinary care and had surgery to remove the rest of his leg. It took time, but eventually Captain's forever home was found last year! Here are some words from Captain's new family:

I just wanted to send you some long overdue photos of Captain - he's doing great and as you can see is loving all of the snowfall we've gotten this year. We also bought him some doggie wheels, which he is learning to use for longer walks, and we've discovered that he is an avid hiker, as we frequently bring him up a small mountain nearby. Thanks again for rescuing him and helping us bring him into our lives - he's definitely become a well-loved member of our family!

Though Captain is having fun playing in the winter weather, we know his heart is warm with love! Donors like you ensure that we are able to continue helping more animals like Captain. Thank YOU for helping us provide Captain with the best life possible.

East Mississippi Animal Rescue thanks you for your continued support! We are so thankful to have donors like you to support us in our ongoing efforts.

Since our project started, you have helped us raise a total of $7,510! We have been able to help so many animals with the money you have contributed. Back in March, we told you about a group of dogs we rescued from a hoarding situation in a neighboring state. Four dogs from this group remain in our care. Simba, Lemon, Socks, and BG are still awaiting their forever homes. Simba continues to have a bad case of mange and is receiving treatment from the donations you provide. We hope and pray that these four will find their forever homes soon!

If you're interested in adopting one of these dogs, or any of the other animals in our care, please visit our webpage to learn more and fill out an adoption pre-interview.

As we near the end of October, the holidays are quickly approaching and many of us are getting into the gift-giving spirit.
