Devine Orchestration

When NW AR RC&D first began the Low Income Home Repair program it was thought that the average repair per client would be in the $1,500.00 to $2,000.00 range if volunteers were used for most of the labor. The reality has been that most of the people who apply for assistance are living in places that are so dilapidated that some of them are not repairable. The program simply does not have enough resources to fill the massive need. We have managed to stretch everyone’s resources much farther by partnering with others. It truly takes a community to make things happen.

This story starts with the donation of a home by Ozark Opportunities. The home needed to be moved to make room for new head start classrooms. In the meantime a lady living in an uninhabitable place with no kitchen and serious heating issues visits with her pastor for advice about her living situation.  Simultaneously The Fuller Center for Housing is looking for a client in need of a home and asks their board members to contact people in the community in search of a needy client. In less than twenty four hours after the lady talks with her pastor a board member approaches the pastor. At this point there is a home and a client. A place to put the home is needed. The lady tells the board there is lot with a burned trailer within walking distance of her church. The board had already made an offer on the exact property. The pastor had a church member with a construction company that removed the burned trailer in a day. Now this is where you come in. The donated house needs a few repairs and needs to be moved at a cost of approximately $25,000.00. We were able to donate 10% of that cost because of you our partners through global giving!

Stroke Victim Receives Assistance

Volunteers in front of John & Sharon
Volunteers in front of John & Sharon's House

Dear Partners,

After John  suffered a stroke Sharon had to refocus her life to be at home with John.  John’s current health status has made maintaining the exterior of their home a challenge.Their home had a back deck that was failing and a need for a ramp so that John could safely exit their home and enter their vehicle. NW AR RC&D along with several other partners replaced the deck built a ramp, replaced siding along the bottom of the home along with rotting soffit. We painted the entire exterior of the house, carport and outbuilding.

It is only because of partners like you that John & Sharon were able to get the asssitance thay needed. Thank you so much for your continued support.

Paralyzed Veteran, Unable to Live in Home

C.J. a U.S. Army Veteran was struck by an unknown disease in 2005 that affected her spinal cord. She became paralyzed from the waist down. In 2009 her husband passed away and in February 2012 the disease returned.  She became paralyzed from the chest down.

C.J being unable to maintain her home was in need of several structural repairs. Her home was also in need of modification to accommodate her being wheelchair bound.  Her home did not allow her to complete simple tasks such as getting to the restroom or taking a shower without a great deal of assistance. Her bathroom was not ADA compliant.

In partnership with several others NW AR RC&D was able to be a part of making the necessary repairs. NW AR RC&D supplied just under $7,000.00 in material and a couple of volunteers. By combining our resources with the resources of others we were able to allow C.J to function in her own home.

Thank you for your partnership with us!
