Uganda Little League: the Journey Continues...

Baseball Field
Baseball Field

In Uganda, the Little League Program is part of the International School, a unique school that links academics and sports.  Children who attend the International School receive a quality education with special emphasis on math and science while also participating in a broad range of sports, including baseball.  Pitch In For Baseball and the Uganda Little League began partnering more than 5 years ago as a way to overcome the hurdles of obtaining baseball equipment at low costs and getting it there, as the cost for shipping to this region is exorbitant.  The School has commented on several occasions that without this partnership, baseball in Uganda would have ceased to exist years ago.

Pitch In For Baseball is the school’s official equipment provider.  Over the past three years alone, we have shipped more than 10,000 pieces of equipment (both new and used), totaling an estimated $160,000 value.

In December 2013, we sent the most recent shipment, which included nearly $10,000 worth of equipment.

Funds raised on GlobalGiving helps to cover the costs for Pitch In For Baseball to provide these donations on an ongoing basis.  Our Uganda Little League donation is our single largest project each year.  Last year, in one shipment, we sent more than 20 pallets of equipment; our second largest is one pallet.  Our donations are a combination of new and used equipment, some of which we purchase specifically for this project at rates we’ve negotiated with baseball manufacturers that are well below wholesale.

The donations via GlobalGiving are truly helping to grow youth baseball in Uganda.

Attached are some photos of the school and its baseball facilities.

Thank you for helping to grow youth baseball in Uganda!

Youth Baseball In Pakistan

Thank you for your support and interest in this project.  So far, we've raised almost $200 for our project in Pakistan, but still have a long way to go until we can begin shipping baseball equipment. Baseball continues to grow in popularity with teams representing Pakistan having great success in IBAF tournaments.

In July 2013, the Pakistan baseball team was one of 16 teams that participated in IBAF 12U Baseball Word Cup in Taipei City in China. In November, Pakistan hosted the 11th West Asia Baseball Cup.  The interest is there and country is beginning to truly embrace baseball but financial limitations and lack of equipment have slowed the game's expansion.

We look forward to the opportunity to assist in their growth efforts.

Final Report and Thank You

Thank you for helping to rebuild 23 leagues in New York and New Jersey that lost everything in Hurricane Sandy earlier this year.  With your support, we were able to deliver $210,000 worth of equipment to ensure that nearly 10,000 kids had a glove on their hand, a bat on their shoulder, and a uniform on their back when their 2013 season began.

As we wrap up this project, we were reminded that baseball is magical, and sometimes, it's more than just playing.  Baseball can restore a sense of normalcy and help children heal in times of tragedy.  It is about connecting to one another, the element of pure play, and being able to be a kid amidst all the chaos.
