Kisimenyi - making a difference in the community

Kisimenyi Kids
Kisimenyi Kids

The best way to understand how the work of African Promise and Kids4kEnya is impacting the local community is to hear it directly in the words of the local leaders, head teacher at Kisimenyi, Mr Nicholus Mutui:

“I arrived at Kisimenyi Primary School and the sight that saluted my eyes was of the most modern and beautiful primary school in Taita Taveta county, and all courtesy of African Promise. The pupils had a lot to tell me about ‘our new school’ and I could see they are really proud of the school and wait eagerly to ‘migrate’.

I wish you could know what you’ve done for these children and their parents. The parents look at the school and some shake their heads in disbelief while others cannot hold back tears of joy. These poor peasant farmers had been having their mud school full of cracked walls and crowded dark classrooms for so long that they had given up hope of building a good school for their children. Who would have thought that African Promise would come to their rescue!

As each day we see the completion of the new school coming closer the pupils, teachers and parents pour their prayers to the Almighty God to bless you and African Promise. The pupils say that the best present they can give is [for Kisimenyi] to be a centre of academic brilliance producing pupils who will not stop in [secondary school] but move all the way to university.

With all that is in my heart, I promise you total cooperation in making your promise of better primary schools for Kenya to be realised at Kisimenyi.”

Continued Prgress in Kisimenyi

Christmas Party 2012
Christmas Party 2012

In December Kids4Kenya hosted its first Annual Christmas Party in Towson, MD at which we raised over $7,000 to provide continued funding for the Kisimenyi Project. Many thanks to all who participated. We very much appreciate all the continuing support for this vital project.

We still need a substantial amount of capital to comlete the build out of the classrrooms and facilities at Kisimenyi and we hope that the amazing support we have been able to attract over the past two years will continue and enable us to complete this extensive project.

On the ground in Kasigau

Classroom Block - Kisimenyi
Classroom Block - Kisimenyi

African Promise founder, Charles Coldman has just returned from an extended visit to Kasigau.

At Kisimenyi, after more than 15 months of construction work, we have begun to paint some of the buildings, including the library, office and nursery school. The stone floors in three of the six classrooms are laid and the remainder will be completed over the next few weeks. We have begun construction of a third four-room tuition block. We hope to have all the buildings fully completed, and furnished, by the start of the next school academic year at the end of January 2013.
