learning materials provided to orphans in Kiabiraa

Dear Donors,

We are gratefull for the donations that you have provided to the cause of this program.Following the disbursed amount that we received of $ 170.00 we were able to provide stationaries to 1 primary school - Kiabiraa primary school. The school which has a prevalent number of orphans was selected.Books, Pens, Pencils,Rubbers,Storybooks and Geometrical sets were given to 25 orphans in the schools.

Majority of these orphans lack basic education learnin materials such as books, pens , pencils and geometrical sets and end up relying on borrowing from their fellow students. Although the government of Kenya has provided free primary education to all pupils still most pupils especially those who come from poor families cannot be able to acquire basic learning materilas such as textbooks, geometrical sets and accompanied stationaries. We discovered that the orphans we are targeting were suffering as they did not have these supporting learning materials, furthermore being orphans due to death of parents as a result of HIV/AIDS complicated their confidence in learning and is with compasion from you the donors that we are able to restore hope among this orphans.

The Kiabiraa primary school manamagemet committee took part in the distribution of the learning materials which was done with the whole school pupils present. We also gave them a motivational talk on stigma on HIV/AIDS persons especially on children coming from such families.

The orphans even though shy were happy for receiving the learning materials, the Kiabiraa primary school was grateful for the assistance given to his pupils.

orphans acquire recreational kits to enhance their education

Our team had identified four schools in Manga District - formerly part of Kisii District (the locality where our program is being focused) which had high numbers of orphans enrolled as pupils. This program which is a pilot project in Kisii District aims to send more than 400 orphans to schools and supporting their education, your continued contribution has seen as enroll a number of orphans, provided learning materials to orphans.

Four schools namely Bigogo,Nyaisa, Nyakongo and Tombe were identified to be having high number of orphans. These schools lacked recreational facilities and children were not fully utilizing their games time. The children were using old traditional items to play out of which most were putting them at risk of injuries. The program focuses on orphans but due to the high number of orphans in the identified schools we decided to provide recreational kits to the schools as a whole so that both can benefit from the recreational kits.

This activity was conducted on 17th June, 2011 to the four schools ( Bigogo , Nyaisa and Nyakongo and Tombe),upon arrival to the schools we were received with jubilation and students in Bigogo primary school could not hide their anxiety as some of them left their classrooms to come meet us.

A recreational kit was distributed to each school, a recreational kit comprises of ;2 footballs,4 skipping ropes, 2 volleyballs and nets, 2 handballs and 1 first aid kit. Following our announcement that we were coming to the schools to distribute the recreational kits, more children attended school with the hope of acquiring the kits which was unusual according to the teachers of the schools. The children were thrilled and happy to have these items distributed to them and could not hide their joy, the teachers also were not spared either. And as one teacher from Bigogo put it " As long as these recreational activities are available, children will never miss school as they will always want to play with them, this will make our work easier as we will have all the students attend class,we are really grateful to our donors".

The teachers had a hard time sending children back to classes after we had left as the children had embarked fully to playing forgeting that they had classes to attend to.The teachers and students of the three schools were grateful for the provisions and encouraged the donors to continue with their kind hearts towards the cause of the program.

We have attached photos of exited children as they receive the recreational kits. Our team plans to reach other schools possibly 7 primary schools before the end of this year.Your help has made us put a smile on these orphans, your help will make us put a permanent smile on them.Thank you so much

Orphans provided with school uniforms

orphans in Nyambaria school receiving uniforms
orphans in Nyambaria school receiving uniforms

Hello dear ones,

First and foremost i would like to pass greetings from the orphans who have already benefited from your generous contribution towards their education and welfare.Health and Water Foundation is grateful for your support.

Due to limited availability of funds towards this project " Send 400 Kisii Orphans to school in Kenya" much has not been done but nevertheless your contribution has helped start equipping the selected orphans with school uniforms. This is due to the fact that most orphans that are under this project lack basic necessities, school uniforms being a major necessity they lack.

5 needy orphans in Nyambaria Primary school in Kisii acquired complete set of school uniforms, the 5 orphans were provided with the uniforms thanks to your generous contribution. These five are among 17 in the primary school who are complete orphans without necessary support to sustain their learning in the school.

Health and Water Foundation endevours to support the remaining 12 orphans in the same school with a complete set of uniforms by the end of next month (June) and possibly reach 100 orphans by the end of this year.Orphans that we plan to reach are total orphans without support or have poor caretakers. We encourage our supporters to help contribute so that we can also reach the remaining 12 orphans in the school, this will also prevent the remaining orphans from feeling demoralised and discriniminated.

The Nyambaria school community has also been supportive towards this project, as the community have been willing to assist the orphans i.e in identifying the orphans whom relatives are not allowing to attend school.

We thank you all for your kind hearts towards this cause.
