The Kupona Foundation was created in March 2009 to support Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT). With a direct link to local activities, the Kupona Foundation ensures maximum return on donor investment and programmatic benefit for CCBRT and its. In the coming years, the priority for the Kupona Foundation is to support the development of CCBRT's new maternal health facility, Baobab Maternity Hospital.
CCBRT is the largest indigenous provider of disability and rehabilitation services in Tanzania, directly benefiting more than 120,000 adults and children each year. Baobab Maternity Hospital is the result of a public-private partnership between the Government of Tanzania and CCBRT. In addition to overseeing capacity building in existing Dar es Salaam hospitals, Baobab will be the regional center for pro-poor MNCH services, including emergency obstetric care, PMTCT, and family planning.
