Long Lasting Gifts

In Kind Donations
In Kind Donations

Dear partners and friends,

Thank you for your continued support epecially with regard to supporting to give the gisft of education to a needy child.

We have had local volunteers coming in to support this aspect of the project through in-kind giving.

The biggest one being a group of 20 Medical Practitioners in Kenya, from Kitui Town supporting the school with food and writing material to 178 children.

They sent three reprsentatives to deliver grain worth $ 118 and pens and pencils enough for 178 students. It was also a time to encourage the students, motivating them to pursue learning despite the challenges they might be facing knowing that their effort would yield lasting fruit- a better life in future.

I would like to call upon partners who can mobilize in kind support in the same vein to make such support working with local partners. partners can mobilize in kind e-book donations to support our reading program, learning software and other resources like text books and sports/games equipment since the need is huge.

We also welcome ideas to achieve the objectives of this program. email to info@acresofmercy.org.

Thank you.

One Classroom Up!

Hard core to fill in Foundation
Hard core to fill in Foundation

It has been a great first half of the year. Together we have been able to give students at class 7 (7th grade) a class to call their own. To our friends, and partners-Bravo! And Thank you! We are indeed delivering the classes stone for stone.

Over the past few months much progress has been made with the classroom building project.

We have received disbursements more consistently namely Feb, March, and now June. This means that we have been receiving more donations that have enabled us meet the processing amounts.

I want to thank you for your generous giving.

Through these efforts we have been able to do the following

  1. Complete 1 classroom- complete with plastered floors and walls, roofing and installation of windows and door; we were also able to complete conduit work for the electrical wiring.
  2. With the last disbursement we will be able to do the following:
  • Complete payment of the contracted mason for previous work completed.
  • Fill in two foundations with hardcore
  • Complete electrical wiring of the new class.
  • Complete the installation of windows

The impact has been amazing with our current class seven able to have enough learning space. We have been relieved of space constraints to a great extent. The class was able to move from a garage space they were using since the beginning of the year at the right time as the cold season set in.

Though our lower classes are still constrained for space I believe we will be able to work to complete two more classes at least by end of August 2014.

To do that would require us to make close to $4000. This will complete the two classes (see foundation stage) and also start the work on a second Block with 4 classes.

I would like to request you to consider doubling your giving and mobilization from friends to enable us meet the $4000 mark and deliver the two classes just as we did deliver the complete one over an impressive time of four months.

I believe with all of us chipping in with double efforts we can do the two classes in two and a half months.

This way we would be able to separate the baby class, nursery and pre-unit  who are currently sharing one class and class one and two who are currently sharing our office block-which we converted into classrooms.

Once again I would like to ask you to ask friends, family, work colleagues and business associates to support the work down here, to make for significance. This way we can double the speed of the work and the impact we are making together.

Thank you!

Building Children's futures Stone for Stone

New Block to the Left
New Block to the Left

Dear friends and partners,

Once again it’s my pleasure to report that we are making good progress on the project since we changed focus.

The following has happened since our last reporting:-

Three Classes Being Built Already

We redrew the plans to a simple 9 class school with an administration block and kitchen at a cost of $ 470. These were approved by the Town Council and the Public Health Department at a cost of $348.

The redrawn plans ensured we would be able to have classes at a cost of $53000 instead of the initial plans that would have been $ 200,000 as per Bill of Quantities estimates, a quarter of what we initially planned with.

So far we have laid the foundations of three classes and completed the outer structure of one class up to roof level. (see pictures)

Total cost of the building part of the project so far has been approximately $1023, and includes digging up the foundation, laying the bricks, purchasing ballast 7 tonnes, sand 14 tonnes and 800 feet of stones and labour.

April 2014 Target

We have a target of April 30th to complete the super structures of the three classes and install windows and doors and complete the floors. And also begin the foundation of the kitchen and three other classes to be completed by end of August 2014.

Thanking You for Continued Support

I would like to thank you for your continued support in giving towards these projects. You are making a difference with every dollar given. At the same time I would like to encourage you to consider increasing your recurring giving by $ 20 to enable us receive disbursements monthly rather than bi-monthy  for that is how long it has been taking  for us to get to the disbursement limit of $200.

Also encourage friends and family to support the project to help us get to $588 a month for the building so we can have the classes standing by end of August 2014.

I want to thank you sincerely on behalf of the children and the Board of Acres of Mercy for your continued giving despite the many circumstances and all the things that clamor attention. Thank you for making Acres of Mercy and its work a key part of your life. We are honored and privileged to be part of such a difference making team.
