Growing Power - Chicago

Growing Power is a national nonprofit organization and land trust supporting people from diverse backgrounds, and the environments in which they live, by helping to provide equal access to healthy, safe and affordable food for people in all communities. We implement this mission by providing hands-on training, on-the-ground demonstration, outreach and technical assistance through the development of Community Food Systems that help people grow, process, market and distribute food sustainably.

Over 40 compost bins built at Iron Street!

Mural!
Mural!

The youth at our Iron Street Urban Farm have built over 40 vermicomposting bins over the past month! Soon Growing Power will be able to increase the amount of food waste it is able to pick up from local businesses to create even more healthy soil for our growing beds as well as other urban agriculture projects in the Chicago area. Take a look at the pictures of our youth at work!

Also take a look at the progress of the Iron Street mural, beautifully designed and painted by our youth.

Now that the weather is getting colder, teens from our After School Matters program will be heading to Iron Street Urban Farm offices this week to learn about the importance of pollinators and build bee hives! Pictures and fresh honey to come!

Now every dollar donated will go twice as far in building one of the largest urban farms in Chicago!

Growing Power has just received a challenge grant from a private donor.

Every gift we receive (of up to $5000) will be matched!!!!! So please help by securing a tax deductible donation and spreading the word!

Thanks again for all your support. We wouldn't be able to accomplish what we do without it.

What's happening this week at Iron Street

Mural
Mural

Once again, thank you to everyone who has donated to this project. Growing Power greatly appreciates your generosity!

A lot is happening this week at Iron Street. Below you will see a picture of a mural that is currently being created on one of the sides of the site's building. All 40 of our youth are participating in designing and painting it!

This week we will also have a new fence being installed and also hope to construct our first hoop house on the farm. More pictures to come!

Only 9 days left to reach our goal! We still have a ways to go, so please continuing supporting Iron Street Urban Farm and spreading the word on the Global Giving Challenge to friends and family.

Thanks again.
