Mission

The Fundacion Proacceso is a nonprofit that uses the educational benefits of technology to catalyze the social and economic development of marginalized communities in Mexico. It envisions a world where everyone is digitally included and empowered by access to education.

Programs

The Fundacion Proacceso's main project is the Red de Innovacion y Aprendizaje (RIA), or Learning and Innovation Network, a group of education centers in marginalized communities in Mexico. At the end of 2010, with the support of the Secretary of Public Education, we developed an online portal of educational video games [http://red.ria.org.mx/index.php] covering a variety of academic themes including math, Spanish, science and history. The aim of this project is to give supplemental support to students in the main subjects covered in primary school and to help youth learn in a way that is fun and playful. In 2010 the RIA was selected by Iniciativa Mexico (IMx) as one of the top fifty social projects in Mexico. Through the support we received from this award we developed two new courses for the RIA: SocialRIA, a course on social networks, and FotoRIA, a course for youth on digital photography. Moreover, we strengthened our presence in social media with the goal of utilizing Facebook and Twitter to extend the communities of the RIA to the Internet and create a space for sharing the latest news on the RIA with our users and facilitators. In 2012, The Fundacion Proacceso decided to worth together with the Mexican Counsel on Science and Technology (COMECyT) to support cientific talents in Mexico, so we are now involved in the Sciences and Engenieerings Fair which is a channel to promote Mexico scientific talents. In 2012 the RIA expanded with 25 Digital Libraries located inside public schools that provide access to digital resources and educational content. In 2013, twenty-five additional Digital Libraries will be built, consolidating a network of 110 centers.
