Programs

Sub-Saharan Africa - Uganda Rayland Rural Development Organization (RARUDO) in Tororo District in a small village without electricity or running water. We have built wells, planted communal gardens, purchased live stock and plows, and partnered with a local group of disabled people. We emphasize educating and empowering the girl child and widows. This requires a variety of programs: Food support: seeds & livestock; medical care: purchase of medical support for opportunistic infections; educational support: uniforms, school kits, tuition. We have trained rural poor women in long term survival skills for HIV/AIDS. In turn these local women have trained more than 10,000 people and have developed their own programs in Eastern and Northern Uganda as the Rural Women's Empowerment Network (RWEN) and the River Fund Women Association Kitgum Uganda, a former war zone with a million people returning to their homes after a decade of living in refugee camps. These partnerships provide seeds for widows and child headed households, food support, medical support, education support as well as counseling and friendship to the most vulnerable and marginalized. South Asia - India Little Hearts Orphanage in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh cares for AIDS orphaned children. Nellore has a very high occurrence of HIV. The orphanage is now home to girls and boys from ages 3 - 14. These children 6attend school, receive extra tutoring, are fed three meals a day, clothed, and provided with medical care and a safe and loving home. USA - Florida The ranks of the hungry and the homeless are growing in Indian River County Florida. The jobless rate is up an unprecedented 13-15%. Feed Everyone, the River Fund's local grassroots program in Gifford, Florida, sees some of the hardest cases -- the men and women who aren't working, who may be using drugs or alcohol, who may be mentally ill and/ or HIV positive, the grandmothers taking care of 5 or 6 HIV/AIDS orphaned kids. Each month we feed over 300 people lunch and deliver dry goods to as many families. We partner with the National Association of Letter Carriers National Food Drive to Stamp Out Hunger in our local community and partner with several other local organizations to provide 1000 packed backpacks for local needy school children.
