More Than Me

The More Than Me Academy is on a mission to make sure education and opportunity, not exploitation and poverty, define the lives of the most vulnerable girls from the West Point Slum of Liberia. When she graduates, she will decide what comes next for her life.

Musu and More than Me

Thank you so much for your donation and support for Musu and the More than Me Foundation. In this new year, our organization has so many exciting projects ahead of us. Right now, we are in the process of building our very first girls' academy. We look forward to opening it to new students in 2013 in phases. This will allow us to greatly expand our reach and ensure that our students are getting a high quality education.

More specfically, thanks to your generous gift, Musu, one of the older students, will be able to get computer lessons for the first time in her life. This skill will allow her to provide for herself in a safe and empowering way. Musu will begin her lessons shortly and will be able to continue working on her computer skills when our academy opens in the near future. She is so excited for this opportunity and we could not have provided it for her without your help.

Abigail is our focal point for this contest. Why? Read this letter she wrote to us this past Sunday.

My name is Abigail.

I’m 13 years old. I live in West Point, Liberia. I don’t know my parents… I was left with women I didn’t know when I was 6 years old. They took care of me, but life was hard. Often, I didn’t have a place to sleep or food to eat. I was in and out of school. I used to sleep at a video club, that’s how I survived. I was abused, both in my mind and body. I didn’t feel loved.

When I met Katie and More Than Me, my life changed. I have a new home now and food to eat. I’m in school now. I’m happy now. I feel like I have a future now. I feel loved. I’ve learned how to bake, which helps me earn extra money.

Thank God for More Than Me — they are the only family I have now. Please help vote for me so I can continue in this new life and stay in school. Your vote is my future. I’ll do anything to show you that I’ll do my best in school and become something with my life.

We also need 150 more people to donate $10 for a chance to work with Nike's The Girl Effect! These are both such amazing opportunitites for us and we don't want to miss our on either. Give here: to help us reach our goals and get more girls in school!

Update on Abigail (FORMER child prostitute)

Abigail was on the streets. She was exploited. Abused as a vulnerable 10-year-old girl. And now?

She is now 13 and in the 7th grade. She's a top student. She knows how to bake, a skill that she can use to earn an income. She dreams of being a leading voice for millions of girls just like her - and we expect her to do it!

We are only able to open her life up because of you. It's that simple. It's not complex. She is off the streets and on a path of impact because of... you.

We have a couple incredible opportunities in front of us - and we need you:

1) Nike (yes, Nike!) nominated us to join the organizations they partner with to help girls around the world. All we need to be ELECTED is a whole bunch of you to vote (by donating as little as $10) and it'll be official. Nike wants to see that we have grassroots support - let's show them and change some lives right here.  Go now to the voting/donation site at

2) The biggest opportunity we've had is also looking right at us. It's a chance to end the atrocities that Abigail and all the girls in her situation stare down everyday.

We can't give you the details yet... but we can say we don't need $ from you for this. We need people with large and small online audiences to galvanize their friends and family to help -- it won't take much but it will mean everything to Abigail and girls just like her. Stay tuned, and we'll let you know on November 14th when we're allowed to talk about what's going on. Email us: if you'd like to be more involved!

Together we can do this for Abigail!
