Organization for Youth Empowerment

OYE is a youth-led organization that develops the leadership and capacity of at-risk Honduran youth. OYE's integrated development approach combines academic scholarships, youth capacity building, and community engagement to inspire and equip young people with the awareness and skills they need to take control of their own lives. The final goal is the empowerment of socially conscious youth who will emerge as leaders and agents of positive change in the Honduran community.

In 2005, OYE began by sponsoring 6 scholarships for young women. The 2010 class boasts 75 students, ages 15-23, who come from marginalized backgrounds and would otherwise be forced to work help support their families. The application process is rigorous and involves an interview, socio-economic study and a house visit. OYE´s success lies in its power to unite youth leaders from across the city to collaborate with local youth on projects, such as OYE´s youth radio El Ritmo.
