International Disaster Volunteers (IDV)

At IDV we believe that to provide meaningful relief and reconstruction assistance to disaster affected communities around the world we have to do more than reconstruct buildings. We need to understand and address the factors that made a community vulnerable to the disaster in the first place. Our work will be organised with these factors in mind so we can effect change that far outlives our presence.

Thanks so much for supporting Erica!

Her sign says
Her sign says 'thank you' in Filipino!

Thanks so much for supporting evacuees like Erica. Because of your generosity, we’ll be able to provide hot food for her during evacuation.

Hot meals will be available when the next flood comes and forces Erica and her family to leave their home. Evacuation will never be easy for Erica, but your generosity means that Erica and her family won’t go hungry.

We’ll send you updates about how your gift is changing the lives of Erica, her family, and families like them right here on GlobalGiving. Should you ever have any questions about how we’re using your donation, please don’t hesitate to email Emma@IDVolunteers.org. We’d love to hear from you!

One last time, thanks so much for ensuring that Erica and her family can enjoy hot meals during floods.

Very kind regards,

Thanks so much for supporting Wilkenson!

Thanks so much!
Thanks so much!

Wow! We can’t believe that you funded an entire year of school for Wilkenson with just a few clicks and your amazing generosity.

Because of you, we’ll be able to keep Wilkenson in school and learning the skills he needs to build a brighter tomorrow. Wilkenson’s been doing really well in school – he hasn’t needed even one hour of extra help yet! But if he does, we’ll be there, ready to get him the tutoring he needs.

We’ll be able to support Wilkenson because you chose to give. There are so many things you could have spent your hard earned money on, but you chose Wilkenson. Thanks so much.

We’ll keep updating you about Wilkenson and all his classmates through this project’s parent page, Break the Cycle of Poverty with Education. If you ever have any questions about how we're using your donation, please email Emma@IDVolunteers.org. We’d love to hear from you!

Thanks again for making Wilkenson’s future bright, and our warmest regards!\

Give a child like Gusline a Merry Christmas

Christmas is a time for fun and games at HTDC
Christmas is a time for fun and games at HTDC

Fantastic news! Since our last update, generous donors just like you gave a wonderful $5,000 to help the HTDC orphanage launch its own small business selling chicken eggs.

The profits from those eggs will help the orphanage’s leaders give children like Gusline a secure future. Like so many of the kids in the orphanage’s care, Gusline’s parents abandoned her. There is no record of her birth or her early childhood. Without the orphanage she would be homeless, completely undocumented, and vulnerable.

But in the orphanage’s care, she’s blossomed into a healthy, happy four year old girl who loves dresses and playing with her friends.

The orphanage is working toward self-sufficiency with its chicken business and other businesses they’ll soon begin. But those businesses aren’t paying the bills yet, so for the time being they’re reliant on donors like you to ensure Gusline has food, school, healthcare, and maybe even a few gifts on Christmas morning.

This Christmas, we hope you’ll help us give Gusline a Merry Christmas by becoming a monthly donor. When you create your recurring donation between today and New Year’s Eve, GlobalGiving will match your donation!

Your gift of just $10 a month is enough to fund three month’s education for Gusline, so please consider giving what you can.

Not ready to commit to a monthly donation? No problem. Your donation of just $26 will give Gusline or a child like her a full month of nutritious food.

Thanks so very much - and, if you’re celebrating this year, we wish you a very Merry Christmas!
